Thesis Paper PUBLISHED!!!

Finally!! It’s published!! The thesis paper, full text, is finally on-line and I couldn’t be happier!
I would like to thank my wife, my family, and my friends. And the academy for believing in me.
Just kidding.

But seriously, this is amazing and I can’t believe that it’s over! I mean, I am so pleased to be done and happy to have contributed to our scientific understanding. Ahem.

Anyways, check it out, if you wish. A bit dry but maybe the abstract would be interesting to you.

The following link is the primary data for my M.S. thesis paper.  This, apparently, does not mean that it is published, only that this is where it will live, electronically, for all of time.  I guess that this also means that instead of sitting on a bookshelf gathering dust, that it’ll sit unaccessed on a server somewhere as bits of data.  Anyways, I don’t truly care where it is, but I have made a contribution to scientific understanding and that’s pretty cool!

Done!!!

Thankfully, mercifully, unexplainably… I’m done with my Master of Science work.  I have all of the forms signed, I have submitted all of the paperwork, and even handed in my $12.00 binding fee.  I cannot believe it, but it is complete!!  I am excited to get my life back.  I have been taking classes, nearly non-stop (except for a semester here and there) since 1999 when I began my undergraduate work.  Now, 9 years later, I have not only completed myundergraduate degree, but have a Master of Science degree to my name and have a very successful teaching career.

Nine years out and I have had many significant life events.  My mother has passed away, I am married, and I have had two significant honors bestowed on me as a science teacher.  I am leading a blessed existence and am so excited to see what the future holds for me.

I will keep putting the significant teaching and learning events on this blog.  Thanks for reading!

Thesis almost done!!

Earlier this week I submitted a draft of my thesis for my advisory committee to review. I defend my thesis next Friday at 10am at OSU. I spent hours and hours working on this document. It’s really hard to say exactly how much time, but for a couple of days I was only getting three to four hours of sleep!! I know I was a little cranky and hard to deal with so I have been apologizing profusely to my wife, students, colleagues, and friends! I can’t really say who my friends are right now because I have been too busy to talk to anyone.

Anyways, I am near the end of the road and am excited to see and feel what life is like without being a full time student. (I have been taking at least one class for the past ten years!). I think it’s time to buy a house, mow the lawn, clean the gutters, and chase the squirrels away. That and I really want to garden. I haven’t had a chance to explore this passion for over a year now.

Anyways, I’m nervous about my defense because I do not know what it entails and I don’t know where to look. I am preparing by reviewing my old course notes, reading through the papers cited in my thesis, and reading my thesis over a few more times. Hopefully, this will be enough prep and I’ll be ready. I think that they’ll laugh me out of the room, but Lindsay says they don’t do that to people anymore. I guess we’ll see this time eight days from now!
